Euro 2012 to stay with 16 teams: hosts present bids

'We have decided today that there will be no expansion of the tournament to 24 teams,' UEFA vice-president Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder said after an executive committee meeting in Cardiff, Wales.

The decision comes on the eve of a decision by the UEFA board on the hosts for the 2012 tournament. Three candidates are in the running: Italy, Croatia-Hungary jointly and Poland-Ukraine jointly.

UEFA, Europe's ruling body for football, had commissioned a study at the beginning of the year into the idea of a 24-team tournament from 2012.

Germany's Mayer-Vorfelder said he believed the decision to retain a 16-team format for the tournament was the correct one.

With 53 member associations in UEFA it meant that roughly one in three of the continent's football nations were already represented, he said.

Real Estate Agents A Necessary Evil

As for things that go up, up, up, we turn to the property market. There can be few more maligned and disrespected professions than being a Real Estate Agent. They are commonly grouped with Politicians as being among the least trustworthy people on the face of the planet.

Our opinion of them? We don't have one. But, whatever one may think of them, they fulfil an important role in the transfer of property from a seller to a buyer. There have been many business ventures in the past that have tried to remove the role of the Estate Agent from the process. So far none of them has been successful.

In Victoria there is a particularly heavy reliance on Real Estate Agents in the Auctions market. A property is advertised with an expected price range, potential buyers view it and then decide for themselves how high they would be prepared to bid on the house.

Hendrix, Bono, McCartney material raises money for lost instruments

A Jimi Hendrix guitar sold for $480,000 during a celebrity memorabilia auction designed, in part, to raise money to replace musical equipment lost to hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The auction, which included material donated by The Edge, Bono, Paul McCartney and others smashed expectations and brought in total of $2.4 million US , officials said.

"It was the best sale we've ever done,'' said Darren Julien, president and chief executive of Julien's Auctions, which ran the event benefiting Music Rising.

Music Rising was co-founded by The Edge, the U2 guitarist who donated his favourite instrument, a 1975 Gibson Les Paul that he has played for years. The guitar had been expected to bring $60,000 to $80,000, but it went for $288,000, including the commission.

Iran seeks bids for nuke stations

TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran said Sunday that it was seeking international bids for building two more nuclear power plants despite international pressure over its nuclear program.

"Iran is launching two international tenders for the construction of two nuclear power stations of between 1,000 and 1,600 megawatts capacity in Bushehr," said Ahmad Fayazbakhsh, the deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, who was quoted by the ISNA news agency.

He said that contacts already had been made with Russian and European firms, but that with Iran under U.N. sanctions because of its nuclear program, it was unclear if companies would want the risk of taking on the projects.

Russia helped Iran build its first, nearly completed, nuclear reactor in the southern city of Bushehr.

Tranzon to Auction off Five Luxury Condos in Downtown Boston

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tranzon Auction Properties, the nation's premier real estate auction group, will hold a public condominium closeout auction at the Langham Hotel for five units located at 65 Broad St. in Boston on Tuesday, April 17, at 6:30 p.m. At this unique auction event, prospective buyers can make bids both in-person and online with the first unit sold as a bidder's choice with no minimum bid and no reserve.

Unlike the increasing number of real estate foreclosure auctions, these high-end, one-bedroom condo units—known as Lofts at Broad—must be immediately sold by developer Steve Sarcia in order to obtain capital for an important upcoming real estate project.

"I have a new project in town that I have to start so timing is of the essence," said Sarcia.
