Energy Ministry to open bidding for power buy in Apr

Energy ministry will open bidding for purchasing electricity from private power producers in April as scheduled, Minister Piyasvasti Amranand said Wednesday.

Invitations to IPPs (independent power producers) will be issued late this month. The selection process will be by the next government, Piyasvasti said.

Bids must be submitted by October, with the selection of winners set for April 2008 and the finalisation of a power purchase agreement in October that year, Piyasvasti said.

According to Piyasvasti, the government plans to buy 3,000-4,000 megawatts from private producers for adding new power generation capacity during 2011-2013. This will boost the country's current total installed capacity of 27,789 MW.

SIMPSON BOOK RIGHTS AUCTION DELAYED

LATEST: An auction to sell off the rights to O.J. SIMPSON's scrapped book IF I DID IT has been delayed. The rights to controversial book - which hypothetically places Simpson at the scene of the 1994 murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman - were due to be sold at an auction tomorrow (17Apr07). But it was postponed after Lorraine Brooke Associates, the company that struck the deal for the ex-NFL star, filed for bankruptcy last week (13Apr07). The news comes as a blow to the Goldman family who were due to receive the proceeds as part of the $33.5 million (£17 million) Simpson owes following a 1997 civil case for wrongful death. Goldman family attorney David Cook says, "The bankruptcy process is a detour on the road to justice."

Benefit aids injured football player

That was the case Sunday afternoon, when the proceeds from every haircut, manicure and massage sold at Tanglz N Bangz in Lafayette went to help recovering Frontier High School senior Cody Lehe.

Lehe, 18, of Brookston collapsed during a football practice Oct. 25 due to a head injury he sustained at a football game a few days earlier.

Between the services offered inside Tanglz N Bangz and silent and live auctions held behind it, volunteers were able to raise $28,500 for Cody.

"It's overwhelming," said Becky Lehe, Cody's mother. "To be six months out from an injury and still have support -- it can't put into words."

The money will be used to help finance Cody's rehabilitation. A single hour of intense physical therapy can cost as much as $100, Becky Lehe said.

She believes her son is on track for a swift recovery and expects him to soon leave his wheelchair behind.
