Elton John And Simon Cowell Sign Up To Help Sick Animals

Rock legends, sporting heroes and pop stars autographs are all up for grabs in aid of veterinary charity PDSA. So if you fancy getting your paws on the signatures of Sir Elton John (pictured), or everyone's favourite Mr Nasty, Simon Cowell, or Greased Lightnin' babe Holly Willoughby, then log on to eBay and get bidding!

The auction coincides with the start of eBay's animal campaign, encouraging people to either sell items they no longer need and donate a percentage of the sale to their chosen animal charity, or bid on items being sold. Funds raised for PDSA will help the veterinary charity provide free veterinary treatment for sick and injured pets.

PDSA so relies on the generosity of the public to funds its PetAid services, which cost more than 41 million every year - and is counting on your bids to help keep tails wagging across the UK!

So what are you waiting for? Log on to PDSA's website and follow the links through to the auction site.

Wright's Barnyard Auction

It was a bitter-sweet party atmosphere in Lansing, Illinois, this week as Norton Auctioneers of Michigan auctioned off the rides, games and equipment from Wright's Barnyard. The amusement and fun park had been operated by the same family since it began in 1956.A favorite playtime destination for suburban Chicago families and children for over half a century, Wright's was also the host to countless area teens on their first date as well as numerous weddings.Attractions at Wright's included a kiddie carousel, a frog hopper, two miniature golf courses, a go-cart track, batting cages, an arcade, a restaurant and the home of Burt and Millie Wright on the five-acre site. The late Burt Wright started the park in the mid-1950s when he spent $300 to build a miniature golf course in the back yard of his home on Bernice Road. In the case of the ever popular Wright's Barnyard, (more recently known as Wright's Hollywood Park), it was not dwindling crowds or revenue that led to the closure, but the loss of land to the adjacent Interstate highways.According to Luke Brenner of Norton Auctioneers, the auction was a big success. "There was a great crowd and people kept coming in throughout the auction," said Brenner. "Maybe the biggest surprise was the go-carts," he added, "we were offering them individually but someone stepped up and bought the whole lot." The multi-player Pac-Man, obviously a local favorite, sold very well as did most all of the park's items. Brenner reported that the park's owner, Chris Paglia was very pleased with the auction. Paglia, grandson of the park's founder, even treated everyone in attendance to a picnic lunch.

Coles in bidding war

TROUBLED retailer Coles Group is headed for a bidding war after the private equity consortium led by US buyout group Kohlberg Kravis Roberts provided written confirmation that it could trump Wesfarmers' $20 billion takeover proposal.

Coles (cgj.ASX:Quote,News) said the KKR bid team had written to the board to confirm its continued interest in buying the company, which last year rejected an offer of $18.2 billion from the consortium, which includes private equity giants Bain, CVC, KKR, Blackstone Group, Carlyle Group and Texas Pacific.

Coles chairman Rick Allert, who has tried to talk up the prospect of a bidding war for Coles (cgj.ASX:Quote,News) since the company officially put itself up for sale in February, said KKR had "indicated its confidence in getting to a price equal to or above $16.47 per share, subject to due diligence''.
