Another Round of Chrysler Bids Expected This Week
Potential Chrysler suitors are expected to make another round of bids for the Auburn Hills, Mich.-based automaker this week. The bids could trickle in as early as today because parent company DaimlerChrysler AG [ticker: DCX] is preparing for senior-level management meetings Wednesday, with the sale an expected hot topic. If a deal were to take place in the near future, operations and production of automobiles would likely transfer to the new parent quickly, while DaimlerChrysler might retain a stake in the financing operations for an extended period of time, according to unnamed sources in a Detroit News article. Daimler’s minority stake would likely preclude them from any day-to-day management over any part of the company, an unnamed source said. Private equity firms Cerberus Capital Management and The Blackstone Group as well as Canadian auto parts maker Magna International with partner Onex Corp.
Frisky Lamb puts Gloucester top
Besides bidding farewell to the stand, the Kingsholm faithful said their farewells to Jake Boer, Peter Richards and Adam Eustace. Boer, Gloucester’s South African flanker, is returning home at the end of the season to pursue outside business interests, while Richards will join London Irish next season and Eustace has signed for Llanelli Scarlets. Richards has been off the booze in a bid to boost his England prospects, and could be the only one of the trio not nursing a hangover this morning. Newcastle’s headaches began yesterday morning, when they woke at their Gloucester hotel to find that the kitbag containing all 30 pairs of the team’s shorts had been stolen. It hardly ranked alongside Pickles the dog sniffing out the Jules Rimet trophy in 1966, but the Falcons were still grateful to the local schoolboy who discovered them in his back garden — and his dad who drove them to the ground in time to spare the players’ blushes.
Boss Mustang Star of Shannons Autumn Auction
A stunning Grabber Blue 1970 Boss Mustang 302 Fastback with all matching numbers is one of the highlights of Shannons Sydney autumn auction on Monday May 7. One of just 737 built with the W-code Drag Pack option, the car has been the subject of a fully documented restoration by its former Californian owner less than two years ago. It is now in immaculate condition both inside and out, having covered only around 400 miles since. In muscle car terms, the Boss models built in 1969-1970 have grown in stature to become some of the most desirable Mustangs of all. The Boss 429 was essentially a big-block dragster while Ford used the Boss 302 to homologate the Mustang for the SCCA's Trans-Am road racing series, where engine capacity was restricted to 5.0 litres.
