| Bidders fail to tune in to Chrysalis auction
Chrysalis' efforts to auction its radio assets have started slowly after yesterday's deadline for first round bids passed with a muted response. Analysts say that if the sale process continues to struggle it could raise doubts over the efforts of rival SMG to attempt a £100m summer flotation of Virgin Radio. SMG's announcement earlier this month was seen as an attempt to flush out buyers for Virgin Radio with former owner Sir Richard Branson seen as a possible favourite. .
Alumni Association holding auction
The University of Maine Alumni Association recently announced the opening of the second Black Bear Online Auction on April 3. All proceeds will benefit the programs dedicated to the school's 95,000 alumni. Alumni and business sponsors have donated more than 100 unique items that will be up for bid until 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 3. Diana Richardson, assistant to the president of the Alumni Association, said the association hopes to raise between $5,000 and $7,000 through the event. The auction, in its second year, "came from the association's senior staff and was approved by the board of directors last year," said Richardson, who has devoted countless hours to pulling the auction together and making it run smoothly. "Most of the staff and some members of the board have been instrumental in getting the donations and sponsors." The current top 10 items up for auction include a night's lodging in Blue Hill, Maine, a game of golf and lunch at the Penobscot Valley Country Club, a 1993 men's Black Bear Hockey team photo autographed by Shawn Walsh, miscellaneous Black Bear paraphernalia and a Moxie T-shirt.
