FCMC Dinner Auction Nets $25000

Three hundred people packed the Hustontown Firehall on Saturday, April 14, for dinner and a chance to bid on more than three hundred silent and traditional auction items, all to benefit FCMC’s new facility currently under construction.

Those honored during the evening for their support and commitment over the past five years were Bonnie Mellott-Keefer, Helen Overly, Lyle Reed, Julia Dovey and the Hustontown Firehall and Ladies Auxiliary. Thanks to their efforts as well as everyone who attended the dinner auction each year, over $100,000 has been raised from this event alone for the new building project.

Helping to make this year’s event a success was the addition of a gold sponsor. EMBARQ was the proud sponsor of this year’s auction, giving financial assistance to cover expenses, providing an auction item and supplying 30 door prizes of free phone cards for the lucky winners.

Speculation surrounding DoubleClick bidding war continues

Following last weeks rumor regarding Microsoft bidding to acquire DoubleClick, Internet giant Google is now rumored to be bidding for the online advertising services provider.

Google must now step in and make sure they keep Microsoft out of the DoubleClick buy at all costs, said Mark Simon, vice president of industry relations for Did-it Search Marketing, New York.

We do not comment on market rumor or speculation, said Jon Murchinson, a Google spokesperson.

Although Google is not ready to talk about the bidding war, people in the industry have a lot to say.

Google's main benefit is defensive, Mr. Simon said. They keep MSN out and protect its relationship with AOL. If Microsoft wins, then it will be serving ads through DoubleClick in AOL properties.

Board bids farewell to Ferraro

Ross Ferraros last day presiding over a Carol Stream village board meeting came with a bulk of good-byes.

Officials, community members and his son spent Monday evening reminiscing about Ferraros 20-year tenure and thanking him for his service.

There were plaques issued, proclamations read and an honorary Ross Ferraro Day established in Carol Stream for April 29. He will be the grand marshal for the villages Fourth of July parade this year.

You helped us branch out and helped make us what we are a community, Suzanne Hlotke, a longtime resident and former local reporter, told Ferraro.

Ferraro wasnt the only one who was remembered during Mondays board meeting, which essentially doubled as a going away party for four outgoing village officials.

Tom Shanahan, whose 16-year tenure makes him the longest-serving trustee on the village board, and Meldon Skip Stubbs were also recognized for their respective tenures, as well as the villages clerk, Janice Koester.
