JIMI HENDRIX: 1966 Fender Mustang Guitar Sells For $400000

Reuters is reporting that Jimi Hendrix's 1966 Red Fender Mustang guitar fetched $400,000 at an auction Saturday (April 21) to benefit musicians who lost everything in Hurricane Katrina.

The auction at New York's Hard Rock Cafe by Julien's Auctions raised $2,436,900, including a 20 percent buyer's fee, for Music Rising, a charity set up by U2 guitarist The Edge and other musicians after the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricane. It marked the first time such a wide selection of U2 memorabilia was available to collectors, organizers said.

Iran Plans To Invite Bids For Two Nuclear Plants

Tehran, Iran (AHN) - Iran said on Sunday that it would invite bids for the construction of two new nuclear power plants. That decision comes despite international pressure over its nuclear ambitions.

"The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran will issue international tenders for the construction of two nuclear power plants with the capacity of 1,000 to 1,600 megawatts in Bushehr," said Ahmad Fayyazbakhsh, the deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization.

The plants would be light-water reactors and each plant would cost up to $1.7 billion and take up to 11 years to construct, he further added.

According to media reports, Russia and some European companies have expressed willingness to take part in bidding.

Replying to a question on whether American companies could be allowed in bidding, he said, "Any company interested in the issue, can participate in the tenders."

'Idiot' bidder buys speeding ticket at auction

WELLINGTON.- In a strange example of internet madness, a New Zealander has sold a $NZ130 ($A116) speeding ticket on a local online auction website.

Nearly 30,000 people viewed Bob Grieve's ticket on the Trade Me site before Allan Hearn, an insurance assessor from Pukekohe, - by chance the V8 motor racing capital of New Zealand - bought it for $NZ51 ($A45.60).

Hearn said he had never had a speeding ticket - a gap in his life that is now filled, The Press of Christchurch reported.

"For 50 bucks, who cares?" he said.

"I told my missus about it, and she called me an idiot."

Grieve, a TV cameraman from Christchurch, posted his photograph holding the ticket on the site and said he had fielded a flurry of amorous comments as well as bids.

Brazil's Central Bank To Hold Forex Swap Auction Wednesday

SAO PAULO (Dow Jones)--The Brazilian Central Bank will hold a reverse swap auction on the foreign exchange market Wednesday, the bank said in a statement. The monetary authority will offer 32,100 contracts, worth $1.55 billion, with four maturities between ranging between June 2007, and April 2009. The auction is scheduled to take place between 1500 GMT and 1600 GMT. Swap auctions allow investors to exchange paper linked to variations in the Brazilian real against the U.S. dollar for government paper linked to interest rates. The swaps allow foreign investors to enjoy Brazil's high interest rates without foreign-exchange exposure. Typically, the auctions weaken the real by reducing future dollar inflows. On Tuesday, the real closed at BRL2.028 to the dollar in spot contract trading on the Brazilian Mercantile and Futures Exchange after ending Monday at a six-year high of BRL2.0246 per dollar.
