| Bid deadline for major contractors postponed
MANCHESTER - The new Manchester Essex Regional Middle and High School recently took its first step toward construction of a new building by opening subcontractor bids. The second step in the process, opening major contractors to bid on the $46 million project, will have to wait a few days. The deadline for major contractors to turn in bids for the project has been extended from Wednesday, April 25, to Monday, April 30, according to project manager Jay Stanbury of Design Technique Inc. Officials said the extension won't cause the project to be delayed. "The extra time will give contractors additional a time to get their bids in," Stanbury said. Stanbury said the move to extend the deadline was to give those bidders who were affected by last week's nor'easter time to regroup.
Rosneft subsidiary wins 5th auction for bankrupt Yukos assets
MOSCOW, April 18 (RIA Novosti) - A subsidiary of Russia's state-run crude producer Rosneft has won the fifth auction for smaller assets of the now bankrupt oil company Yukos [RTS: YUKO], the country's federal property fund said Wednesday. Yukos, once Russia's largest oil company, was declared bankrupt August 1, 2006, after three years of litigation with tax authorities over the company's tax arrears. Neft-Aktiv was declared the auction winner after it offered 1.03 billion rubles (about $40 million) for the lot compared with the lot's initial price of 992.31 million rubles (about $38.5 million). The other bidders included the companies Akkord and MorTransInvest, the fund said. The first auction held March 27 to sell Yukos's 9.44% stake in Rosneft was won by Rosneft's subsidiary RN-Razvitiye, which offered 197.84 billion rubles for the lot (about $7.6 billion), compared with the lot's initial price of slightly over 195.5 billion rubles (about $7.5 billion).
Bandstand restaurant’s contents up for grabs
Dick Clark's American Bandstand in Overland Park permanently closed its doors April 14 after 17 years of burger flipping, dance parties and nostalgia. The owners of the restaurant and dance club decided to call it quits because of slow business and financial concerns by the franchise company. Now everything from the giant records on the building's roof to the kitchen's many sinks must go. The contents of the entire facility, 10975 Metcalf Ave., will be sold at a live auction Tuesday. Auction attendees may peruse the facility starting at 8 a.m., and the auction will begin at 10 a.m. "We just need to go in there and sell everything we can possibly sell," said John Clark, the director of marketing for Auction Expo, a Texas-based company that will be hosting the auction.
Proceeds of 'meet and greet' auction benefits three local charities
Christina Aguilera's "Back to Basics" tour, stopping at more than three dozen cities in the United States and Canada, is about more than the music. At each concert site, Ticketmaster auctioned off "meet and greet" packages, with proceeds earmarked for three charities Aguilera supports. One is the Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh, where Aguilera's mother, Shelly Kearns, is on the board of directors. "We feel honored that she cares so much about the cause and about what we're doing here in Pittsburgh," says Ellen Gamble, development director for the center, which helps 5,200 women and children each year in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. In addition, Gamble says, Aguilera's decision to highlight the problem of domestic violence gives attention to the issue on a national scale.
